Australia wins International Cor Groenewegen Tournament edition 2009 !

After a thrilling end of the game, Australia has secured the first position in the Uitgeest International Youth tournament with a 2-1 victory over FC Utrecht from Holland. Both teams did not spread their best quality of the tournament in this final, but there was no way to complain about a boring final. Utrecht took the lead quickly, but Australie kept on fighting proving their reputation in 'fighting til the end'. 2 Minutes before the end Australie was awarded a penalty after a foul by Utrecht player Gevero Markiet. James Holland, who plays in the Dutch league for champions AZ Alkmaar scored form the spot. Luke Devere scored within one minute time, a few seconds before the final whistle the 2-1.

With 4 goals Pachego received the cup for most goals in the International Cor Groenewegen Tournament 2009.

Liverpool secures the 5th spot after a 1-0 win over Dutch Vitesse / AGOVV

Liverpool won after a goal in the 40th of Dani Pachego, and finished 5th after this victory. Both teams were about equal in strength, so Liverpool was quite happy after their final game of the tournament.

Celtic secures 9th spot after winning with 3-2 with penalties against Dutch Champions AZ Alkmaar

Celtic finished the tournament in the 9th position after a well deserved win over AZ Alkmaar, whose first team has gained Dutch championship title and will play in the Champions League next season. The game itself ended goalless in 0-0, but Celtic proved stronger after penalties, AZ goalkeeper bounced 1 Scottish shots, Celtic goalkeeper Connor Farley saved 2 penalties of AZ Alkmaar and led the Celtic celebration afterwards.

Australia and FC Utrecht through to final

After victories over PSV and FC Twente / Heracles respectively Australia and FC Utrecht reached the final of the ICGT 2009. Liverpool will play Vitesse / AGOVV and Celtic will play AZ from Alkmaar in their decisive matches to know their final ranking spot. More will follow in a short time, with also some English matchreports of Australia, Liverpool and Celtic.

Famous and strong teams at the 24th ICGT Uitgeest.

On Friday March 20th the drawing was held of the 24th International Cor Groenewegen Tournament, which is being held in the weekend of May 30th. Two famous Dutch players, one of AZ Alkmaar (that just celebrated the Dutch national title) and one from Feyenoord Rotterdam, Luijckx en Slory respectively, assisted in this draw.
